French Breakfast Puffs

Recipe from:  West Lafayette Junior High School Home Ec.

1/3 cup soft shortening

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/4 tsp nutmeg

1 1/2 cup sifted flour

1/2 cup milk

1 1/2 tsp baking powder


Cream shortening, sugar and egg

Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture with alternate additions of milk.

Fill greased muffin pans 2/3 way full

Bake at 350oF for 20 to 25 minutes

Remove from pan and then roll in a melted butter (1/2 cup) followed by a roll in a mixture of 1/2 cup sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon.

Makes 12-16 puffs.
